Abstract

Seoane Pérez discusses the issue of the EU’s perceived communication deficit, arguing that this is not the result of a lack of commitment from EU leaders and journalists, but rather of cultural and structural limitations. Based on an analysis of the situation in two regions, Galicia in Spain and Yorkshire in the UK, he claims that there are two important challenges that limit the EU’s democratic potential: a lack of ‘domesticisation’ and a lack of ‘politicisation’.
