Abstract

The Polish cipher machine, constructed early in the 1930's and used during World War II is described. Its origin and application are presented. Details of construction, recovered on the basis of extant documents and accounts are included. Circumstances, results, and implications of its crypt analysis, made by Polish cipher experts in 1941, are described.
