Abstract

Formal disciplines can be seen as inquiring systems, having the function of providing valid answers to questions of administration and management. In a least some cases, these systems gain considerable immunity from both theoretical and empirical attack. This phenomenon is examined for the case of a particular sub-set of economic ideas (those which support the idea of the superiority of market forces to interventionist strategies) as a policy generating system for the agricultural and rural development sector.
