The research objectives were explore and discuss current status and opportunities of the NDIS practice standards in relation to specialist disability accommodation design standard (e.g. basic, improved liveability, robust, fully accessible, and high physical support) and disability housing supports and services according to the current legislation and policies under the NDIS rules and practice standards (rights and responsibility for participants; governance and operational management; the provision of supports, and the support provision environment) and SDA rules. The research has identified a number of policy development options for the benefits of information and communication technology (ICT), the need for culturally-based national building codes and types, new accommodation practices for support workers. However, further research is required to assess the provision of smart disability accommodations and caretaker facilities.
