Abstract

The partial pole placement problem has received considerable attention in Control Theory, where it is applied to stabilize time-invariant linear control systems. This paper discusses application of the partial pole placement problem to the construction of preconditioners for linear systems of equations. Numerical examples show that these preconditioners can improve the rate of convergence of the restarted GMRES methods significantly.
