Abstract

A method is proposed for the determination of Teicoplanin by differential pulse polarography (DPP). The electroactive product was obtained by nitration with potassium nitrate in sulphuric medium. It showed a reduction peak at -0.1 volts, which may be used for analytical purposes. The optimum conditions for the polarographic signal were determined and a study was made of the different parameters affecting the electrochemical process. A polarographic procedure is proposed for the determination of Teicoplanin in a concentration range between 5.0×10−6 M and 1.4×10−4M. The detection limit is about 7.1×10−7 M and the relative standard deviation is 3.8%. The method was applied to the determination of Teicoplanin in pharmaceutical formulations.
