Abstract
The structures of the products derived from the reaction of aqueous methanolic alkali with 4-nitrophenylacetic acid were determined by polarographic techniques. Comparison was made between their half-wave potentials and those of azo- and azoxybenzene derivatives, which showed that the products were 4,4′-dioxaloazobenzene and 4,4′-dioxaloazoxybenzene.
