Abstract

The study by Tast-dc and differential pulse polarography of several amidoxime compounds is reported. The amidoximes studied are: 1,1′-azobis(isobutiroamidoxime) (AIBA), nitrilotriacetoamidoxime (NTAA), ethylenediaminetetra-acetoamidoxime (EDTAA), 3,3′-iminodipropioamidoxime (IDPA), 3,3′- oxydipropioamidoxime (ODPA) and 3,3′-thiodipropioamidoxime (TDPA). EDTAA, ODPA, TDPA and IDPA give well-defined anodic signals. For NTAA only a shoulder is obtained, and no signal is observed for AIBA. The anodic signals obtained are due to the oxidation of mercury to form 1:1 Hg(II)-amidoxime complexes. AIBA yields a cathodic wave due to reduction of the azo group. Some amidoximato-copper(II) complexes are studied: their stoichiometries are established and their stability constants β 1 evaluated.
