Abstract

The problem of the propagation of linearly polarized light in an optically inhomogeneous anisotropic media with the amplification (a twist-oriented nematic liquid crystal with the pleochroic dye) is considered theoretically. The existence of an exact analytical solution of the system of complex equations in this geometry is demonstrated to be related to the fact that the deformation of the tensors of dielectric constant and gain does not violate the coincidence of their principal axes which is the direct consequence of the effect a guest-host which is known in liquid crystals. The influence of the gain anisotropy on the spatial dynamics of the propagation of ordinary and extraordinary waves in the medium is revealed.
