Abstract

A study of polarized fluorescence of poly(9,9-dioctylfluorene) (PFO) thin films coated on polyimide (PI) alignment layers having different chemical structures has been reported. The orientational order parameters of aligned PFO thin films, prepared by cooling from the liquid crystalline phase, were evaluated by means of steady-state polarized fluorescence spectroscopy. The order parameters of the PFO thin films are found to be dependent on the chemical structures of PI layers. The polarized fluorescence spectra of aligned PFO thin films reveal that the excimer emission becomes more remarkable in the PFO thin films with higher order parameters.
