Abstract

Λ hypernuclei with large spin polarization and large spin alignment are shown to be produced by means of (π+, K+), and (π+, K+xnypγ) reactions at GeV/c region. Production of such spin‐oriented hypernuclei opens a new hypernuclear spectroscopy with angular correlation measurements of γ and weak decays, which are crucial for studies of electromagnetic moments and weak decay mechanisms of the hyperon in the nuclear medium, and for spectroscopic studies of hypernuclear structures. Studies of non‐mesonic weak decays from polarized hypernuclei give the isospin components in the weak process with Δ S=1.
