Abstract

The circular polarization of atomic transitions after the interaction of fast nitrogen ions with a solid surface at grazing incidence is investigated at energies for the incident ions from 0.4 up to 15 MeV. Large degrees of circular polarization in the visible part of the spectrum are found so that the application of this technique for producing nuclear spin polarized ions is feasible.
