Abstract

Introduction. Satellite recordings made with a dipole do not display the regular Faraday effect during periods of strong scintillation [Yeh and Swenson, 1959]. The recent development of a low-loss electrostatic goniometer which works at frequencies up to the VHF range [Gschwendtner and Swenson, 1963] has made it possible to investigate the state of polarization of a satellite radio signal under conditions of scintillation. During weak scintillation the polarization angle and axial ratio were found to have only their regular variations.
