Abstract

We investigated the polariton effect upon the polarization selection rules for two-photon resonant transition of Γ 1 biexcitons in CuCl by pump–probe spectroscopy. It is found that, when the energy of one photon is close to the exciton resonance, the two-photon transition occurs even in the co-circular polarization configuration where the transition is usually forbidden. This is caused by the disturbance of the polarization of polaritons. We assign the origin of this disturbance to the collision between polaritons.
