Abstract

A polar coding scheme for faster than Nyquist (FTN) signaling system, named PcFTN, is proposed in this paper and turbo equalization is adopted to detect the received signal. First, the characteristics of the extrinsic information transfer (EXIT) curve both for polar decoder and FTN detector are analyzed. Then the construction method for polar codes are designed and the combination of polar code rate and speeding parameter of FTN to achieve the target spectral efficiency is optimized based on the EXIT chart. Simulation results show that PcFTN outperforms bit interleaved polar coded modulation (BIPCM) system at the same spectral efficiency, making the proposed system a good alternative for BIPCM.
