Abstract

ABSTRACT C.I. Direct Yellow 50 (DY50) removal from aqueous solutions using four functionalized macroporous resins of polyacrylic (Amberlite IRA 478, Amberlite IRA 958) and polystyrene (Lewatit MonoPlus MP68, Amberlite IRA 900) matrices was exploited. The tests were carried out in parallel using non-functionalized polyacrylic (Amberlite XAD 7) and polystyrene (Lewatit VPOC 1064) sorbents. Amberlite IRA 958 of quaternary ammonium functional groups showed the highest values of the breakthrough capacity (368 mg/L) in the dynamic tests and the monolayer capacity (534.8 mg/g) in static batch mode. The kinetic data obtained at different initial dye concentrations were described using the pseudo-first order, pseudo-second order, and the Elovich equations. Salts, surfactants, and pH impacts on DY50 sorption were also investigated. Regeneration efficiency was also evaluated.
