Abstract
The paper deals with Aquinas' concept of the human person. It focuses specifically on three writings: the Commentary of Sentences, Disputed questions on power and the Summa theologiae. Aquinas' writings on the person are extremely wide, although they particularly focus on questions of theology (Trinity, christology, angelic persons). The philosophical principles of the personalistic approaches to the human being as relational and dialogical are only outlined, but are not fully developed. Particular attention is paid to the question of the personality of the separated soul.

První určující charakteristikou osoby je podle Boethiovy definice i Tomášových modifikací individualita. Andělé jsou tedy podle Tomáše jako individua dokonalejší, neboť svou přirozenost vlastní dokonalejším způsobem. Podrobně to Tomáš rozebírá v Otázkách o moci, kde popisuje rozdíl v teologické terminologii řeckých a latinských teologů, kdy řečtí označují Otce, Syna a Ducha svatého jako tři hypostaze, kdežto latinští jako tři osoby, neboť „substance“, která co do svého významu přímo odpovídá řeckému termínu „hypostaze“, je v Bohu pouze jedna. Proto jako je slovo „hypostaze“ u Řeků nebo „první substance“ u Latinů zvláštním označením individua v rodu substance, tak je slovo „osoba“ zvláštním označením individua rozumové přirozenosti. Quod secundum proprietatem significationis respondet hypostasi, aequivocatur apud nos, cum quandoque significet essentiam, quandoque hypostasim; ne possit esse erroris occasio, maluerunt pro hypostasi transferre subsistentiam, quam substantiam.“ 20 Tomáš Akvinský, STh.
