Abstract

Summary A 7-year-old boy was admitted two times to an emergency department for several unexpected diseases. The mother's boyfriend was a cocaine dealer. At home, some adulterants, especially levamisole, were found by the police. Levamisole is originally an antihelminthic derivative, withdrawn from the therapeutic human market since early in the 2000. It remains in veterinary use as a dewormer. Levamisole is increasingly used as an adulterant in cocaine. A hair strand from the child was sent to our laboratory to test for a possible administration of this product.
