Abstract

The Poiseuille flux is perhaps the best known examples in hydrodynamics. It consists of a viscous fluid flux along a channel of constant section. It is a classical example to study by means of the Navier Stokes equations 1, 2, 3. Usually the Poiseuille flux is understood to be driven by an externally imposed pressure gradient but it is trivially equivalent to apply a gravitational force mgover each particle 4. For small velocities (small Reynolds or Mach number) the flux is known to be laminar and stationary and the velocity profile is parabolic. There is however a critical Reynolds number above which a turbulent (unstable) regime starts. In 5 the authors studied a small system of Lennard Jones particles observing that in spite of the size the system has a good hydrodynamics behavior.
