Abstract

This short highlight describes Critical Disability Theory (CDT), how this frame facilitates anti-ableism/disablement through inquiry, and connected movements in the critical disability studies literature. With ableism facilitating a “diminished state of being human,” CDT works to counter these disablements by exposing and opposing oppression of disabled persons by privileging able-bodied/neurotypical individuals. Toward Disability Justice, critiques of binaries, person-first language, and #disabilitytoowhite are also considered in discussing evolving theoretical departures of disability informed by CDT.
