Abstract

ABSTRACT The author discusses the role of human service leaders in disasters and crisis events, including the COVID-19 public health emergency. Some key areas of focus include:- recognizing, planning for, and responding to social and economic disparities in disasters;- planning for the long haul, especially for low-income and vulnerable communities;- exploring rapid-cycle learning approaches to test innovations;- data analytics in program design to support “real-time” service improvements; and- developing a long-term theory of change to address systemic challenges.
