Abstract

It will be shown that the first derivative of the current-voltage characteristic in point contact spectroscopy (PCS) is a function of the electronic density of states at the Fermi level Ef. PCS has been used to investigate an intermediate valent compound, YbB 12, and a heavy Fermion system, CeAl 3. It has been found that YbB 12 has a hybridization gap and CeAl 3 a density of states peak at Ef.
