Abstract

Monte Carlo methods have seen wide application in physiochemical modeling, and the calculation of point charge approximation to a uniformly charged sphere provides an especially straightforward example of their utility. The resulting polyhedra exhibit widely varying, often rare, and seemingly unpredictable point symmetries that provide elegant examples for the teaching of point-group symmetry.
