Abstract

The book includes eight studies concerning poetry of the romantic epoch. The author’s attention focuses on the poetic works of Adam Mickiewicz, Juliusz Słowacki and Cyprian Norwid. They are discussed in separate chapters, but interpretation presented in the volume concerns also works of other romantic poets – artists who are known and less known. Poetry of the Romantics has been depicted from the historical and literary perspective (in this context, poetry of the Enlightenment is an important point of reference, and the question of transformations of poetry in the 19th century constitutes one of the main threads of the book) as well as from the poetological perspective, especially genological, in which different issues are included: 19th century transformations of particular poetic genres and forms (epic, elegy, poetic cycle), and the phenomenon of genre crossing, considered as an important factor of the evolution of poetry.
