Abstract

ABSTRACTThis article explores poetry therapy as a resource to support the self-reflective heart of nurturance and mindful parenting. The first section looks at the relational ground of nurturance and the use of journaling to support self-reflection and mindful connection. The second part explores the significance of stories to support mindful connection, especially around the inevitable moments of discord and disconnection in nurturing the young. The third section looks at acceptance, empathy, and sovereignty as key components of mindful parenting that can provide thematic anchors for expressive writing, and can witness and hold in awareness issues of equality and social justice that are inseparable from nurturing the next generation.
