Abstract

The need to count multi-digit numbers has encouraged people to design aids that can help them do so, and that make it easier for students to count today. The paper defines the concept of teaching aids, gives an overview of the beginnings of the development of teaching aids for arithmetic in different cultures and presents some old teaching aids used in Serbia in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. The aim of this paper is to point out the basics of the development of teaching aids (teaching aids) in the teaching of arithmetic in the younger grades of primary school. The purpose of this paper is to acquaint teachers with the beginnings of the development of teaching aids for arithmetic and the possibilities of their application, in order to have a more diverse approach to students during the processing of teaching content about numbers and arithmetic. The review was done by historical and comparative method.
