Abstract

A new species of Majidae, Podochela casoae, is described from the continental platform of the Gulf of California, Mexico, collected on sandy bottom between 30 and 118 m. The new species shares some characters with P. lobifrons Rathbun and P. hemphilli (Lockington), two species of Podochela also present in the area, but can be readily separated from these by the shape and arrangement of tubercles and by the shape of the first pleopod of the male.
