Abstract

From an empirical data collection from five local urban observatories (Agadir, Inezgane, Marrakech, Rabat, Tiznit) we question the idea of a “generation M20F”, the local name of the 2011 Arab uprisings. Beyond the public protests extensively covered we focus our research on the opting-out dynamics characterized through political abstention of the young urban Moroccans. Youngsters develop their own political sensibility diverging from the elders’ones away from traditional partisan structures. Horizontal social circles, associations, social media seem to influence the way they conceive politics much beyond the power arrangements forged by political parties and monarchy. Moroccans youngsters are receptive to political discourses in local contexts without opting for vote.
