Abstract
The European Community celebrated its 30th anniversary in 1988. This title in the Economist pocket series, sets out the origins of the Community and the ideals of the founding fathers. The book explains the various institutions and activities and looks at internal controversies and external issues, such as the role of the Community in the modern world order. The book examines the issues and arguments which have faced the EC, and which have moulded it into the shape we see today. Dick Leonard discusses the major economic, political and social issues. In a comprehensive study of each aspect of the EC - from fisheries to agriculture, budgets to foreign policy - the institutions and activities of the Community are explained.
