Abstract

Background & purpose: Patients with estrogen receptor (ER) positive breast cancer may be treated with primary endocrine therapy (PET) if they wish to avoid an operation or are deemed unsuitable for a general anaesthetic 1. Surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy may reduce overall quality of life without improvement in survival, particularly if treatment complications occur. The aim of PET is to prevent progression of disease, so that these patients die with rather than from breast cancer
