Abstract

Tinnitus is defined as the perception of sound without any external sound source. Chronic tinnitus is a common condition that can affect quality of life. So far, no causal cure for tinnitus has been documented, and most pharmacological and psychosomatic treatment modalities aim to lessen the impact of tinnitus on quality of life. Neuromodulation, a novel therapeutic modality focused to alternate nervous activity through the targeted administration of a stimulus, has emerged as a potential option in the treatment of tinnitus.
