Abstract

Background & purpose: The risk of breast cancer increases with age with a third of all breast cancers occurring in women aged over 70 years. However, few studies evaluate the efficacy of breast cancer screening in this age group. This study examined breast cancer mortality and survival for women aged over 69 years with screen-detected disease. Comparisons were made with women within the New Zealand screening age of 45-69 years.
