Abstract

Sacroiliac joint pain (SIJ) is a common cause of low back pain, a problem experienced by 2/3 of the United States population over time. While the SIJ can account for 60% of low back pain, that number can be higher in patients who have undergone previous lumbar spinal surgery. Traditionally, the management of persistent SIJ related pathology has involved conservative therapies (physical therapy, topical medications, oral anti-inflammatory medication), interventional therapy (SIJ injection) and surgeries (open and lateral approach).
