Abstract
Periventricular leukomalacia is associated with preterm birth and consequent cerebrovascular changes. Multifocal areas of necrosis are found in the cortical white matter adjacent to the lateral ventricles, which can impact the dorsal and ventral vision flow, the main cause of alterations in the visual and perceptual processing of these patients. Studies point to the possibility that the primary visual cortex is activated by artificial visual stimulation and by Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) with a considerable degree of plasticity even in adults.
