Abstract

Despite the proven efficacy of deep brain stimulation (DBS) as a symptomatic treatment of Parkinson’s Disease (PD), recent studies revealed that DBS is underutilized in minority racial groups, women, and individuals with lower socioeconomic statuses (SES).1-6 Prior studies investigating racial disparities focused on African Americans.6 Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders (NHPI) are one of the fastest growing racial groups in the United States (US), but they are underrepresented in research.
