Abstract

Purpose: Brachytherapy treatments require accurate determination of the absorbed radiation dose. Even though relevant effects such as material composition and patient geometry are accounted for in modern model-based dose calculation algorithms, the dose component due to the source traveling inside the patient is not considered. The purpose of this work is to study the effect of this transit dose on HDR prostate brachytherapy by means of dynamic Monte Carlo simulations.
