Abstract

Postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) is a common complication following cardiac surgery. Posterior pericardiotomy (PP) is a simple surgical method that reduces the risk of POAF because it allows drainage of pericardial fluid into the left pleural space, reducing the incidence of pericardial effusion that may trigger POAF.
