Abstract

Troubling racial inequities have emerged from the 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. While African Americans (AA) represent only about 13% of the US population, AA disproportionately account for about 1% of total COVID-19 deaths. Latinos, who make up 18 % of the population, account for 17.5 % of COVID-19 cases. Incontestably, these differences have been attributed to underlying health, social, and economic conditions that are more common among some racial and ethnic minorities than whites.
