Abstract

Portable Network Graphics (PNG) is a bitmapped image format that employs lossless data compression. PNG is created to improve upon and replace GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) as an image-file format not requiring a patent license. The PNG file is widely used in embedded systems. In this paper, the PNG file structure and decoding process is introduced. According the PNG data chunks, the decoding optimization methods are proposed. Experiments show that the optimization methods can significantly improve the efficiency and reduce the file size.
