Abstract
Heartworm disease in cats should be considered as a differential diagnosis for cats with sudden signs of respiratory distress caused by pneumothorax. A diagnosis of heartworm disease is made on the basis of clinical signs, serologic test results for heartworm antigen and antibodies, and radiographic and ultrasonographic findings.
