Abstract
Dock labourers dealing with grain, seeds, and some chemical cargoes may be exposed to large amounts of dust. The analyses of cereal dusts have disclosed the presence of appreciable amounts of silica; fine hairs, starch grains, and cellular matter were found microscopically. These substances may produce lung disease. Of fifty-five grain workers eleven were pneumoconiotic. The problem of lung disease in grain workers as an entity has hitherto gone unrecognised.
