Abstract

ABSTRACT REMOVAL of foreign material at the stripper using a pneumatic suction device was studied. Foreign material removed through exhaust type hoods mounted over the stripper rolls was collected in a cyclone for five air velocities and two cotton varieties. Weight of plant fraction, total material removed, mass mean diameter, and geometric standard deviation were used to evaluate the system. Although up to 70 kg/ha of foreign material was removed by the pneumatic system, fine material in the bur cotton was not significantly reduced. Amount of foreign material removed by suction system increased with increased air velocity. Less foreign material was removed from the open boll variety than the more stormproof variety.
