Abstract

The aim of this survey was to assess the health status of respondents participating in the Russian EQ-5D-3L valuation study. The sample for the Russian EQ-5D-3L valuation study was recruited from six regions using quota-based sampling with quotas for age (18-30, 31-45, 46-65, 65+) and gender to represent the general Russian population (N=300). Health status of the participants was measured using EQ-5D-3L and EQ-VAS in face-to-face interviews. Apart from age and gender other sociodemographic characteristics such as residential area, income, education, and employment status were collected. EQ-5D-3L population norms including EQ-VAS are reported. The population norms were calculated using a Russian EQ-5D-3L value set. The proportions of self-reported problems on each of the five dimensions of the EQ-5D descriptive system are also presented. The sample was representative of the Russian population in terms of age and gender, included 12.7% participants from the rural areas. The median per-person income was 35,000 rubles with IQR 22,000 – 50,000 rubles, 71.7% of respondents had higher education, 68.9% were employed. Mean EQ-5D-3L value was 0.921 with standard deviation equals 0.095. Median self-rated health using EQ-VAS was 0.8 with IQR 0.7 – 0.9. Respondents reported moderate problems with Mobility, Self-Care, Usual Activities, Pain/Discomfort, Anxiety/Depression dimensions in 79 (26.3%), 17 (5.7%), 55 (18.3%), 132 (44.0%), 106 (35.3%) cases, respectively. In all dimensions, except Self-Care and Pain/Discomfort, only one (0.3%) respondent reported severe problems. Severe problems were not reported in Self-Care, and were reported by three (1.0%) respondents in Pain/Discomfort. 120 (40.0%) participants reported no health problems of any dimension, and 56 (18.7%) reported moderate health problems in one dimension of the EQ-5D-3L. These EQ-5D-3L population norms can be used in economic evaluations and as reference data to compare patients with specific conditions.
