PMU103 Incidence of Nosocomial Infections in Hungary between 2010 and 2016

Abstract

Safety patient care is one of the most important task of all healthcare institutions. It is very important for this task to establish a hygienic operating order in health care institutions and to ensure the protection of patients and health care workers during patient care. Proper adherence to hygiene protocols and the development of hygiene methods in healthcare are essential to minimize the possibility of health infections and to the prevention. The reports In Hungary were processed in the 2010-2016 time interval. Datas for each year were collected from Information from the National Center for Epidemiology of the National Nosocomial Surveillance System. The average number of nosocomial infections per year was 146 and number the of patients was 2445 during the study period. Most nosocomial infections were in 2011 (n=188). The average number of nosocomial deaths per year was 26. The highest number of nosocomial deaths was in 2013 (n = 60) and the lowest in 2011 (n = 6). In terms of the distribution of specific and non-specific infections, the incidence of non-specific infections was more common each year. Non-specific nosocomial infections accounted for 70.29% of all nosocomial infections and specific ones for 29.71%. The results show that nosocomial infections are a real risk source in healthcare. It is very important to see that by following the right protocols and rules, we can reduce the rate of these infections. It is important to develop personal and institutional hygiene, an important element of which is the continuous training of medical staff. Emphasis should be placed on disinfection and sterilization processes, and on compliance with hygiene rules, in which other institutional staff are also involved.
