Abstract

Abstract How does plural logic interact with modal logic? Of particular importance is the question of whether plural inclusion is a matter of necessity. Consider some things, and choose any one of them. Is the chosen thing necessarily one of the things from which it was chosen? After explaining the broader significance of the question, this chapter defends an affirmative answer. One argument is primarily philosophical and is based on the fact that a plurality is fully specified when its members have been circumscribed. Other arguments are primarily logical: an affirmative answer follows in plural logic from minimal further assumptions.
