Abstract

Although interest in family education in rural areas has increased in recent years, most of the previous research adopted quantitative methods and only considered the perceptions of parents and children. In an attempt to offer a broader view of the issue, this paper considers the perspective of rural teachers. The paper aims to analyze the state of family education for left-behind children in rural areas of China and put forward strategies for improvement. Through in-depth online interviews with nine rural teachers, this study finds that there are four challenges to left-behind childrens family education: absence of education subjects, weak education consciousness, unskillful education methods, and misleading education guidance. Based on the analysis of the interview results, this paper puts forward some feasible strategies for improving family education from three aspects: government, school, and family. This study has instructive significance for solving the difficulties of family education for left-behind children.
