Abstract

Photonic-electronic integration is highly desirable in modern communication systems and networks where integration is the only means to achieve the targets of increased power efficiency, lower cost, and most importantly bandwidth. Broadband driving circuits in photonic sub-systems are a sweet spot for high-performance BiCMOS technologies because of superior performance of bipolar transistors in this field. Inevitably, tight integration of BiCMOS and photonics will be required to minimize parasitics and to enable the era of large bandwidth. In this talk, our view on the convergence of electronics and photonics in an advanced Morethan- Moore technology will be presented using the example of our own photonic BiCMOS technology development.
