Although the writer has reconnoitered most of the ranges in the Great Basin, he has devoted his attention largely to the study of the dry eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada, where the glacial features are best displayed free from obscuring forests. There he has visited most of the glaciated valleys but has mapped only a few of them in the detail which their interest merits.
