Abstract

A planar lightwave circuit optical equalizer, based on the minimum mean square error control criterion, is proposed for simultaneous chromatic and polarization-mode dispersion (PMD) compensation. The working principle of the device is explained by means of two equivalent representations, and its performance against chromatic dispersion and PMD is evaluated.
