Abstract

Roger Deldime of the University of Brussels is one of the foremost francophone theorists of theatre sociology and has a special interest in children's theatre and education. He and his partner also manage and run 'La montagne magique', a successful children's theatre in Brussels which also takes responsibility for the training of teachers in theatre education. The article below was researched during a week's residency at the theatre and is presented as a detailed case study to examine how a strong and principled theory of the role of theatre in children's lives has been successfully turned into a thriving cultural practice. It is also intended to introduce anglophone readers to the ideas and work of Deldime.
